Cruise Line Job Opportunities -- How to Score a Great Job With Caribbean or Carnival Cruise Lines

Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruise lines are two of the largest and most popular cruise lines in the world. Many people within the industry would like to gain employment with one of these companies. Not unlike other cruise lines getting hired with Carnival or Caribbean cruise lines can be difficult, but it is not impossible.

The first step when preparing to apply with any cruise line should always be to create a tailored resume. This resume should not only highlight your professional experience, but it should also highlight you as an individual. Cruise lines are particularly interested in what you personally bring to the table and how having you aboard will enhance their passengers experience on their ship. Many of Carnivals ships have casinos on aboard so they also carry an age requirement of twenty one or older for all applicants applying for work on those ships. When applying with Carnival it is important that you note any previous experience you have working in a casino environment. Royal Caribbean bases their cruise experience heavily on entertainment, so any experience in the entertainment industry will definitely give you an advantage and should be highlighted on your resume. Additionally, keep you resume short and to the point.

When you have completed your resume and you are ready to start putting in your applications, you can either apply directly with the company of your choice or you can get connected with a recruitment agent. Recruitment agents work as a middleman between applicants and cruise lines by directing qualified candidates to companies looking to fill available positions. Unlike various other cruise lines, Carnival and Royal Caribbean do not hire solely through recruitment agents. So, if you feel prepared it is completely acceptable to submit an application and resume on your own. Both companies offer the ability to apply directly for available positions online and also list information for mailing or faxing your resume.

Most importantly, Carnival and Caribbean are looking for energetic, outgoing, fun individuals. So when interviewing keep that in mind. In the cruise industry personality and being personable can really seal the deal when it comes to getting hired.

Carnival Fantasy - Review

The Carnival Fantasy is a great ship for first timers. It is usually scheduled for 3 or 4 day trips out of Port Canaveral or other south Florida embarkation ports. It is an ideal way to get your feet wet so to speak and see if you would like cruising. (Of course my personal opinion is that if you don't like cruising you should see a doctor ASAP as there is something wrong with you-but I digress) It is easy to extend a Disney or other south Florida vacation by adding on the extra couple days on one of these short trips.

This ship (Carnival Fantasy) is not for cruise aficionados. I don't have to repeat that do I? Do not go on this ship if you have been on multiple cruise vacations. I have noticed that the more ships people go on the more they become "cruise snobs"-nit picking about everything.

The Carnival Fantasy is about 70,000 tons. It is a perfect size. Not so big that you have to line up for everything and not so small that you feel motion on the ocean. The Fantasy is the first in this class of ships of which there are ten.

The Good

As per usual on a cruise ship the service is excellent. There are often many trainees learning the ropes on shorter duration cruises but the standards are pretty much the same. The menus are the same across the board on all Carnival ships-yummy. There is one night for lobster and yes you can have more than one. Food always tastes better when served by tuxedo clad waiters. For that matter you can order more than one entree or any other menu item you like.

If you can stand to have more than two people in your cabin (185 sq ft for a standard cabin) you can save money. The third and fourth person rates are usually about half that of the first two people. The extra people sleep in murphy beds that pull down from the wall. During the day these are secured to the wall giving you extra space. Having said that the last time we booked a triple cabin my travelling companions called it the penalty box because of the number of times we body checked each other during the course of getting ready to go out.

The Cat's lounge is a must see on this ship. Everything is laid out as a cat would see it really really big. Cleopatra's bar features an Egyptian theme in a piano bar setting-way cool.

The bad

The Carnival Fantasy is showing her age in spite of last years refurbishment. Most notably in the teak deck boards that you can spring up and down on.

On all Carnival cruises (including the Fantasy) your tips are already added to your shipboard account when you get on. To remove them you have to stand in line behind 2500 people at the pursers deck . Since the service is worth at least what they recommend that you tip I suggest that you just leave them on. Unless you really like handed out the envelopes with the tips in person.

The Ugly

The Carnival Fantasy has a children's program called Camp Carnival. I have sailed on this ship 3 times and have used the services of Camp Carnival all three times. Although not all three were aboard the Carnival Fantasy. The first two times all went well. My son loved it all. The last time the staff at Camp Carnival (Fantasy) were the worst I have ever seen. Suffice it to say you are better off leaving your child with a steak tied around his neck in a lions den than with the staff on the Fantasy.

On the cheap

If you want to go on the Carnival Fantasy cheaply, go in the off season ie September or October for the biggest savings. Book far ahead or if you don't have to worry about fluctuating airfare book less than a month away.

Take a taxi to the beach from the Carnival Fantasy instead of joining up with the ships excursion of "beach party".

Eat on the ship (the Carnival Fantasy has some of the best food at sea), instead of on each island ie come back for lunch . Or just have a big breaky so you won't be hungry while you are off the ship.

Book a guarantee cabin ie you are guaranteed that category of cabin or better just not a specific cabin. YOu will often be upgraded this way and will always sail cheaper.

Note: Between my brother and I we have cruised on the Carnival Fantasy 7 times now. Its short itinerary makes it ideal for a long weekend getaway, or to accompany a Disney vacation.

I love travelling, more than anyone else I know. Please read some of my other travel reviews at http://travel.gocurious.com and visit my other sites at http://www.gocurious.com and http://christmas.gocurious.com

Cruise Ship "Carnival Spendour"

Carnival Splendor will be the first of the completely new class of Carnival Cruise Lines ships. The ship is being built in Fincantieri, Italy and is going to be launched in 2008.

The ship will be a little bigger than Carnival's previous Triumph-class cruise ships. With 112,000 tons of tonnage, Carnival Splendor will be the biggest ships in CCL service, though Destiny-class ships can take three hundred passengers more than her.

The ship herself will have a few radically new design ideas. The Camp Carnival facility will have over 5,500 square ft. with a water play area (something unheard in earlier cruise ship designs). Carnival Splendor will have also a huge spa facility, over 18,000 square ft. located on two front decks. In addition to the usual treatment rooms, the spa will also feature a thermal suite and the first thalassotherapy pool – the first such pool aboard Carnival cruise ships.

Another novelty will be the whole sports deck with arena-like facility for holding games and events. This is much more than any other cruise ships have to offer.

Generally speaking, Carnival Splendor's strongest point is thought to be health, sport and recreational facilities, though it is sure that the cuisine and nightlife entertainments will be just as good as those offered aboard other Carnival ships.

How to Get the Lowest Rates on a Carnival Cruise

This is our latest installment on helping clients find the best rates on any Carnival cruise. As one of the industry’s leading online Cruise Specialists, we have put together some of easiest ways to ensure you will get the best rates on your next Carnival cruise!

First, pick a cruise specialist. Using a specialist will eliminate the uncertainty associated with using a travel agent in that a specialist knows the inner workings of the cruise line in regards to best travel dates, promotions, ship details, routes etc. When searching for a specialist, whenever possible, talk to them personally. Doing searches on the internet these days is leaving too much to chance. Everyone and their mother is selling cruises today and you want to make sure that the specialist you are buying from has actually been on a cruise! Makes sense, right? When choosing your specialist, find out if you will be taken care of exclusively by the specialist through the entire booking process and not become just a number after you book. You are spending too much money to become a statistic! How do you know that you are receiving the best possible rate? Simple, call the cruise line directly and compare your rate.

Make sure your rate includes all port charges and taxes. If you look close, 95% of so-called bargains on the internet are not bargains at all-you can get the same rate by dealing with the cruise line directly. Beware of outrageous internet claims-“75% off your cruise!”, “Buy one get one free!”, “Free Air”. You’ve heard it before, if it sounds too good to be true… There are literally thousands of garbage promotion hooks. That doesn’t mean there are not honest promotions out there. You can usually tell the difference by how they are presented. More to come!

A Carnival Cruise? It's a 24-7 Party!

Sometimes you just want to have fun! If there’s any place on earth that can guarantee you fun (24/7), it’s a Carnival cruise. Imagine boarding a floating resort decked out with amenities designed purely to bring a smile to your face. You will surrender immediately to relaxation, laughter and excitement. Whatever your pleasure, a Carnival cruise will not disappoint you.

Even the most die-hard clubber will relish the range of venues on board. Not only can you party hard until the wee hours of the morning, but you don’t have to worry about being pulled over and breathalyzed on your way home. And don’t stick to your Cosmopolitans and Manhattans or your favorite beer; venture into a world of elaborately garnished, fruity concoctions and a range of imported beers that will tempt even the most jaded taste buds. Dance the night away at costume parties on a Carnival cruise, where you will need to come up with some kind of disguise using whatever you’ve brought in your suitcase. Play ‘guess who’ with other guests whom you may have met in a swimsuit (just hours earlier).

Theme nights are big deals on a Carnival cruise. Sometimes they’re based on the hit movie of the day, such as the latest James Bond flick or action adventure. You may even hit the jackpot and have a celebrity appear (in person) to drive the theme home.

When you need to relax and chill out, you certainly won’t be bored. Even couch surfing is more fun on a Carnival cruise. Satellite TV beams an extraordinary array of channels to the ship so you’ll never miss an important game or the latest news. Enjoy a cold beverage while you lounge around and build up your energy reserves because the next party is never too far away.

If shopping is your thing, Carnival cruise ships resemble sailing malls, offering duty-free stores for unbeatable prices on luxury goods. Stock up on your favorite perfume or discover a new one. Try some extravagant jewelry on for size. With almost everything else covered on board, shopping sprees can be irresistible. Souvenirs are a must but it’s probably best that you buy them on shore. They are more likely to be authentic, hand-made representations of the local wares.

Also, try your luck in the Carnival cruise ship casino. These are not inferior gambling lounges. Up-to-date slot machines, beautifully appointed gaming tables and expert croupiers combine to provide an experience that matches any that you’ll find in Las Vegas. The hustle and bustle, ringing bells and cheers of delight are no different here than in any landlocked casino.

You won’t have any problem satisfying your hunger on a Carnival cruise. A late night pizza and beer is easy to find, as is champagne cocktails and canapés. Enjoy a mid-morning cappuccino and Danish while you spot for seagulls, or feast on wicked desserts after lunch and dinner. When you start to feel guilty, take a jog around the various decks or build up a sweat on a treadmill, cross-trainer or rowing machine as you look out to sea.

Speaking of sweat, there are saunas and hot tubs to help relax you even further. A day spa with a full menu of irresistible treatments will help you look your very best each day, no matter how much you party!

Add to all of that, comedy and cabaret performances, art auctions, ping pong, blackjack, cooking classes, movies, temporary tattoos, piano bars, karaoke and belly dancing instruction. You’ll soon agree that a Carnival cruise is the best idea for a party that lasts for days. Also, don’t forget the shore excursions and the exciting things you can see and do while away from the ship.

Known as a “fun ship”, a “party boat” and a “floating party”, a Carnival cruise is ideal for birthdays, graduation rewards, like-minded people and partying your heart out!

Carnival Cruise - Expert Guide

A carnival cruise is one of the best-loved types of cruise in the world. It offers a heady mix of onboard entertainment, pampering and relaxation, all within the plush surroundings of a cruise ship as it sails from port to port. The cruise ship caters for every taste, making carnival cruises equally suitable for those who want to laze endlessly by the pool, to people who are looking for a full-on party atmosphere.

Sports activities are widely available on a carnival cruise. Volleyball, basketball, table tennis and even golf can be played on board the cruise ship. You will always have access to a well-equipped gymnasium too, along with personal trainers to help maximize your fitness routine while on the cruise ship. Additionally, there is a plethora of watersports on offer, including jet-skiing and opportunities to learn how to scuba dive.

Carnival cruise cuisine is delightful. All cruise ships pride themselves on offering a dining experience that is second to none. There is often a huge variety of restaurants, bistros, cafes and bars on board, providing everything from burger and fries meals to cordon bleu cooking. Meals are generally available 24/7, although some restaurants cater only for meals at set times.

The nightlife on a carnival cruise is all about having fun. Casinos, discos, bars and theaters can all be found on a carnival cruise ship, as well as specialist entertainment acts including the likes of comedians, dancers, magicians and theatrical stage performers. You can even learn how to dance ballroom if you want to!

Naturally, there are many opportunities to sign up for day/night excursions at the various ports of call on a carnival cruise. On a Mediterranean carnival cruise for instance, you could take in an Italian soccer game or visit the opera. On a Caribbean carnival cruise you could spend some time island-hopping or discovering underwater shipwrecks.

Whatever you decide to do on your carnival cruise, you're sure guaranteed to have the time of your life - and with so much fun on offer don't be surprised if you become addicted to carnival cruising...
